Akwa Ibom State Government has assured the public of availability of Rice throughout the Yuletide and beyond.
The Commissioner for Agriculture, Dr Glory Edet announced this when she led members of the Committee on Finance and Appropriation of the state House of Assembly on an inspection of the Rice Mill at Odoro Ikpe, Ini Local Government Area.
She said that the Ministry embarked on an Outgrower’s scheme to boost the production of Family Rice.
Dr Edet while welcoming the Lawmakers informed them of plans to boost rice cultivation in other swampy areas of the state.
The Agric Commissioner applauded Governor Udom Emmanuel for his vision for Food Sufficiency by encouraging many Agro investments in the state.
The Chairman House Committee on Finance and Appropriation, Mr Uduak Odudoh said that they were impressed by the quantity of Rice Paddy awaiting processing and the quantum that have been processed and packaged for consumption.
He said that the oversight function is one of the process in the Appropriation Committee before a budget can be passed.
The Lawmakers were conducted round the Mill by the Production Engineer, Aniebiet Effiok of Ibom Agricon Farms Limited.
