The one kilometer Ikot Oku Ikono flyover which connects Uyo, the State Capital with other parts of Akwa Ibom State has been inaugurated by former President of Nigeria, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo.
The inauguration which attracted people from various walks of life within and outside Akwa Ibom state is one of the success story of the Udom administration in infrastructure development.
Speaking, Chief Obasanjo who described the flyover as the longest in the South-South Zone said it would benefit the socio-economic development of the people.
He commended Governor Emmanuel for initiating and completing the project saying the Governor has delivered on his promise to transform the state.
Chief Obansanjo said Governor Emmanuel had brought his banking experience to bear in the management of resources and prayed God to continue to make him a fountain of hope for Nigeria.
The Former President appreciated the people of Akwa Ibom for standing by the Governor and called on the people to support Governor Emmanuel’s succession plan.
Governor Emmanuel in his remarks, said the event was a celebration of God’s wisdom, and faithfulness to his administration
He said that with the completion of the projects, the accidents and traffic hold ups that characterized the junction was now over.
He called on youths of the area to protect the project from vandalism.
Governor Emmanuel announced that contracts would be awarded next month for the design and construction of various alternative roads that provided access to motorists while the construction of the flyover lasted.
