The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency has been hailed by President Muhammadu Buhari for doing well in drug fight.
The recent overhaul of its operations leading to the arrest of drug peddlers at the airport and other parts of the country has also excited the President.
He has therefore pledged his administration’s readiness to further enhance the capabilities and potentials of the Agency whose Chairman, Brigadier General Mohammed BubaMarwa was reappointed in January.
The National Security Adviser, Major General BabaganaMonguno, told newsmen that the president applauded the activities of the NDLEA at the recent security meeting which he presided over.
Monguno stated that he was able to brief the National Council of security meeting on the enablers of crime, one of which is drug
He said the president has given direction on how to deal with issues of drug abuse as propellants for crime, how to make the criminal Justice system much more effective as well as looking at issues of unemployment, which the Federal Executive Council had given an approval through previous memos on how to get 100 million people out of poverty.
Responding to a question on how people are able to bring in arms and train in the bush without the intelligence agencies picking them up, Mongouno said the president has approved the setting up of the National Commission for the control of small arms and light weapons to be domiciled in the office of the National Security Advisor
