To stem the tide of unsafe birth practices through the Martha Pregnacare Outreach, the Wife of the Akwa Ibom State Governor, Dr. Martha Emmanuel has promised to prioritize the Welfare of the citizenry, especially women and youths.
Dr. Emmanuel made the promise at Ibom Hall Grounds during the 10th edition of Martha Prenacare outreach for over 300 women, by the Family Empowerment and Youth Reorientation Path Initiative, FEYReP.
The maternity bags distributed to the women by contained, toiletries, disinfectants, clothing and sanitary towels for mother and baby.
She said the Martha’s pregnacare is a sustained intervention aimed at fostering the needed care during pregnancy, to fulfill God’s purpose of procreation.
While advising the women on the need for Caesarean operation, breastfeeding exercise and rest, the Governor’s wife said family planning is also required to ensure a desired number of children that will not pose as nuisance to the society.
She noted that negligence, ignorance and disobedience can lead to complications or death during pregnancy, hence, the need to attend antenatal and plan towards delivery.

In her remark, the Commissioner for women affairs and social welfare, Dr Ini Adiakpan, lauded the Emmanuel administration for making funds available for laudable projects and programmes in the state.

Earlier, the coordinator of FEYReP, Dr. Idorenyin Ekanem noted that the Martha’s Pregnacare was initiated in August 2018, with the aim of salvaging the challenges experienced by some women during pregnancy, and has been running quarterly with thousands of pregnant women as beneficiaries.
The event featured lectures by healthcare providers and testimonies by previous beneficiaries of the exercise.
