Hard time awaits sexual perverts molesting minors and other gender based violence as Lawmakers are reviewing the penalties in the penal code to serve as deterrent to Girl child molesters.
This was the fall out of deliberation during the budget defense by the Ministry of women Affairs led by the Commissioner Dr. Ini Adiakpan.
She told the committee of the prevalent trend of gender based violence and molesting of minors most pathetic was the defilement of an eight years old child by a seventy years old adult.
She called on the lawmakers to collaborate with the state executive and other stakeholders to checkmate incidents of child defilement by adults by reviewing the penal code.
She announced plans to publish the names of the molesters with their photographs on all the media including internet to expose those culpable of this dastard acts.
Dr. Adiakpan said that the ministry of women affair is a charity organization that caters for the women and vulnerable members of the society.
Dr. Ini Adiakpan prayed the committee to approve the five hundred and thirty three million naira for the 2021 budget and to approve releases to the ministry to among other issues cater for more than eight hundred vulnerable children under their care, the physically challenged, provide skills acquisition centre for vocational training and rehabilitation of victims of gender based violence across the state.
She announced plans for the establishment of a gender based center in Uyo and Ikot Ekpene to complement the agape centre at the Emmanuel Hospital, Eket.
