The Akwa Ibom State Governor, Mr. Udom Emmanuel has charged stakeholders in the Power Sector to evolve ideas that would solve the problems of power generation Nigeria.
The Governor gave the charge at the opening of a three day Management Retreat by Transmission Company of Nigeria holding at the Ibom Icon Hotels and Golf Resort, Uyo.
The State chief executive who emphasized the importance of power to the economy said various avenues needed to be explored if Nigeria must meet its Power needs.
He also made a case for the country to bring gas onshore for greater utilization, noting that Akwa Ibom was seated on about 32 percent of gas reserved which could be channeled into power generation rather than being flared.
Governor Emmanuel advocated stronger partnership with the Transmission Company of Nigeria, urging them to expedite action towards completing their projects in the state, such as the Oron substation and the Eket-Oron transmission line to further complement the Power for All Initiative of the Akwa Ibom State Government.
The state Chief Executive commended the company’s choice of Akwa Ibom for the annual retreat and wished them successful deliberations.
According to the Acting Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Transmission Company of Nigeria, Alhaji Sule Abdulazeez, the retreat was the first since his assumption of office bringing together executive directors, general managers and regional heads to address issues of Power generation and chart the way forward for the future of the company.
Alhaji Abdulazeez expressed appreciation to Governor Udom Emmanuel for the warm reception accorded them, saying that Akwa Ibom was chosen for the peace and serenity it is known for.
