The State Governor, Mr. Udom Emmanuel, has approved the release of the 2020 Promotion for civil Servants, with arrears.
The Head of Civil Service, Elder Effiong Essien, made this known at the Mboho Mkparawa Ibibio Auditorium, venue of the Pre-Examination Seminar organized by the Civil Service Commission, to prepare candidates due to promotion this year.
According to the Head of Civil service, the policy of retraining and re-assessing workers through Pre-promotion seminars and Examinations in line with the Public Service Reforms has yielded tremendous results, by enthroning competitiveness, equality, justice, and fair play for all within the service.
Elder Essien described as counterproductive the previous policy where workers got promoted after spending the mandatory three or four years on a post.
He explained that the process gave rise to a decline in personnel output as officers spared no time for self-development to meet service demands, through the reading of public service rules extent circulars, and other Service Documents.
He said he was happy that the new policy of staff promotion has made training and reassessment of workers, mandatory.
The Head of Civil service appreciated Governor Udom Emmanuel for approving the release of 2020 and the commencement of the 2021 promotion process in addition to his lofty policies.
Elder Essien reiterated the Government’s continued support to its agencies charged with the responsibility of ensuring the well-being and career progression of its employees.
He commended the Civil Service Commission, led by Mrs. Ekereobong Umoh, whom he described as a seasoned bureaucrat, for delivering on its mandate by paying prompt attention to staff matters and the adequate arrangements made to ensure the convenience of participants at the seminar.
In her address, the Chairman Civil Service Commission, Mrs. Ekereobong Umoh maintained that the Pre-Examination Seminar aside from preparing candidates for promotion examination is in line with the Government’s training and re-training effort aimed at opening the path of all career public servants to work his or her way to the top in the service.
She charged the candidates to observe Covid-19 guidelines and general examinations rules to ensure a hitch-free exercise
