The Akwa Ibom State Governor, Mr Udom Emmanuel was among stakeholders who raised advocacies for improved women capacity at Ibom Hall grounds, Uyo, during the grand finale of 2022 international women’s day celebration.
The Stakeholders had emphasized the need for women to also engage in developing themselves if they must achieve the aim of the global celebration.
Governor Emmanuel stressed the need for women to inculcate good moral values in their children in order to reduce the rate of violence and crime in the society.
The governor condemned antisocial tendencies noting that as the political season approaches, politics should be played with persuasion rather than violence and charged Akwa Ibom women not to allow themselves to be lured into what does not reflect the interest of the people.
He specifically expressed appreciation to his wife, Dr. Martha Emmanuel for her contributions through Family Empowerment and Youth Reorientation Path Initiative, FEYREP, which, he noted, has impacted positively on the lives of women over the years.
Governor Emmanuel announced a donation of sixty two million naira to be shared to ten women from each of the 31 local government areas of the state five of which, he emphasized must be widows.
Wife of the state governor, Dr. Martha Emmanuel in a remark commended Governor Emmanuel for his steady support and inclusion of women in governance, describing the gesture as unprecedented.
Dr Martha called on women to rise above the stereotypes, break the bias and develop themselves.
The ceremony featured a presentation by the ASUU chairperson, University of Uyo, Dr. Happiness Uduk and a keynoted lecture by a Professor of Agric Sociology and Rural Development in the University of Uyo, Professor Valerie Solomon.
