Computer Laboratories have been inaugurated in three secondary schools Akwa Ibom State

The Commissioner for Science and Technology, Dr Imo Moffat who inaugurated the Laboratories advised students to devote their time to study and be conversant with the computer system so that they can compete fovourable with their counterparts anyway in the world.

The Commissioner inaugurated and handed over fifty sets of desk top computer systems to three secondary schools in the state

The schools are Qua Iboe Church Commercial School, Minya, Mkpat Enin Local Government Area, Community Secondary Commercial School, Ikot Akpan Ishiet, Onna Local Government Area and Etinan Institute, Etinan Local Government Area.

Dr Imo Moffat accompanied by the directors and staff of the ministry urged the principals of the schools to judiciously utilize the systems.

The Commissioner who was represented by the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry, Mrs Grace Jim charged the youths and members of the community to safeguard and protect the computer sets from being vandalized or looted.

While commending Governor Udom Emmanuel for his purposeful leadership, the Commissioner assured that request made will be communicated to the State Governor

The Principal of Qua Iboe Church Commercial School, Minya, Mkpat Enin Local Government Area, Mr Ugbana John commended the State Government for providing them with the computer systems.

He appealed to the Government to post more teachers to the school as the present eight teachers are not enough for students population of about eight hundred and fifty-two.

The Principal lamented that the school has no mathematics, chemistry and computer science teachers adding that most of the structures in the school needed to be renovated with perimeter fencing to secure the school property.

Also speaking, the clan head of Ukpom Minya, Nsobom Archibong Umanah and the youth leader of Minya, Mr Usen Archibong pledged to use their positions to safeguard and protect the computer sets provided by the state government.

At community secondary commercial school, Ikot Akpan Ishiet, Onna Local Government, the School Principal, Mr Udoeyen Sunday, Ette Idung Emmanuel Odung and a student of the school, Miss Comfort Umoh commended the state Government for the kind gesture assuring that they will use the computer sets for the purpose.

The Principal of Etinan Institute, Etinan, Sir Emmanuel Ikpe-Abasi who thanked the State Governor for the computer sets, noted that the development will enhance ICT learning in the institute and appealed for more more computer science teachers as the school currently has one adding that the institute should be fenced to secure the staff, students and the computer sets that has been provided by the Government.

Meanwhile, the facilitator of the project, Barrister Jerry Akpan explained that the desk top computer sets are internet compliance with internet facilities, computer desk and a generating set to power the systems.

According to him, the State Government has selected one school in each federal constituency in the state to benefit from the project.
