Akwa Ibom State Government is set to conduct the 2020 promotion for eligible officers in the State Civil Service before the end of year 2020.
The Chairman of the State Civil Service Commission, Mrs. Ekerebong Umoh who dropped the hint during a courtesy call on her by the leadership and members of the Joint Public Service Negotiating Council, JPSNC, said the Commission is working very hard to activate all the necessary processes for the smooth conduct of the exercise.
Mrs. Umoh asserted that this was part of the efforts by the present administration to promote excellence in service whereby deserving Civil Servants due for elevation to the next grade level are promoted as at when due.
She further emphasized that the gesture which is coming in spite of the dwindling financial resources of the State was a display of commitment to industrial peace and harmony,
While assuring that government would always be on the side of its workforce, the Chairman however tasked JPNSC to sensitize workers on the need to be on the same page with government by handling their functions with renewed vigor
She stressed the importance of timely submissions of accurate and up to date records to the Commission by Ministries, Departments and Agencies of government to forestall unnecessary delays and setbacks.
Earlier in her address, the Chairperson of JPSNC, Comrade Tina Essien said the visit was a mark of solidarity to Mrs. Ekerebong Umoh on her recent appointment as Chairman of the State Civil Service Commission, as well as intimate her of issues affecting some categories of workers which according to her may throw up industrial disharmony with the view to seeking ways of amicable resolutions.
She thanked the State Government for fast- tracking the process of the 2019 promotion and the prompt release of promotion letters, noting that by this development, issues of backlog of promotions with its accumulated arrears are things of the past.
The JPSNC Chairperson assured that that they would intimate workers in various MDAs to be proactive in their official responsibilities so as to reciprocate government’s gesture.
