Akwa Ibom Gov’t to Build 12 Megawatts Electricity Substation in Etim Ekpo

As part of the drive to link all communities in the state to the national grid, a 12 Megawatts electricity substation is to be built in Etim Ekpo local government area.

Approval for the construction of the sub-station was given during the state executive council meeting presided over by Governor Udom Emmanuel at the government house, Uyo.

Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Comrade Ini Emem-Obong who briefed Government House Correspondents on the development, said the project is intended to ensure a steady power supply to about five neighbouring local government areas in that part of the state.

On general development, Comrade Emem-Obong said the state executive council tasked government ministries to ensure the speedy execution of projects under their supervision in view of eroding the value of money.

According to the Information Commissioner, this became necessary following the council’s review of global economic trends, the implications on the local economy, and the need to ensure that all ongoing projects in the state are completed in record time.

Meanwhile, as some states of the federation face issues of flooding, Akwa Ibom State Government has tasked the State Emergency Management Agency, SEMA, and other related agencies to be on red alert and commence intense sensitization, especially in riverine areas to avert a possible occurrence.

On this, the Information Boss said the state executive council took time to analyze the flood management capacity of the state ahead of any such disaster.
