There are many reasons to love Nigerian celebrities, especially when they decide to stunt the internet with agbada challenge.
Funny enough, Nigerians wasted no time crowning media personality, Ebuka, agabda maestro when he showed off at Banky W and Adesua’s wedding in the most stylish agbada the world had ever seen. Little did we know Nigerian celebrities will give him a run for his money in the nearest future.
On September 23, actor and comedian AY organised one of the fanciest premiers at Imax Cinemas, Lekki, Lagos. The dress code was agbada and many showed up in their preferred style of agbada.
In no time the agbada challenge went viral and Nigerians were left the huge task of picking the winner of the challenge.
Anyone who’s heard the phrase: “Africa to the world” will understand why the challenge warmed the hearts of thousands of social media users. The truth is, gradually, Nigerians and Africans are reclaiming their identity. What used to be viewed as outdated has been repackaged and now, Nigerians are showing how proud of their culture they are. They couldn’t have taught this in schools.
Asides the fact that Nigerian fashion designers brought their A-game to designing the agbadas of celebrities, there’s also the need to recognise how everyone came ready to slay, proud of their heritage (even though agbada is only peculiar to certain cultures in Nigeria).
There’s no picking a favourite, every single celebrity showed up looking fabulous. In fact, it won’t be an exaggeration if the agbada challenge day goes down in history as one of the most stylish days on the planet.
