Symbolic of the 35th anniversary of the state’s creation, a total of 35 kilometers span of internal roads have been inaugurated in the Atan Offort and Shelter Afrique areas of Uyo, the state capital.
The State Governor, Mr. Udom Emmanuel inaugurated the road projects yesterday as part of activities to mark this year’s anniversary of Akwa Ibom.
Roads inaugurated at Atan Offort include; Joshua Eyo, Okon Eyo, Secretariat Drive, and Udokang spur phases one and three.
Speaking before the inauguration at Atan Offort, governor Emmanuel affirmed that completion of the projects bring to a total, 113 internal roads so far constructed by his administration in various parts of the state in the past seven years, 30% of which were within Uyo metropolis.
At Shelter Afrique, the governor inaugurated 5.1Km Akwatang, Amawo, Mbiabong Ikot Essien, Obong Okon Essien roads, and Prof. Stella Idong Arts Gallery street.
He said his administration has so far constructed 25 internal roads in the area, noting that 5 more roads were under construction which would make it 30 internal roads in Shelter Afrique as he had earlier promised.
An overview of the projects presented by the commissioner for Works and Fire Service, Professor Eno Ibanga indicated that the roads were done to full specifications, completed with side drains, 1.2Km main drain linked to the IBB underground drains, and with 30 years guarantee.
In separate goodwill messages, member of Uyo State Constituency in the House of Assembly, Mr. Anietie Ekah, and Chairman, Uyo Capital City Development Authority, Prince Enobong Uwah, an indigene of Atan Offort community commended Governor Emmanuel for his development strides, saying he has rescued the people from age-long travails occasioned by impassible roads in addition to several other key projects sited within the area.
They assured of the full support of Atan Offort people to Governor Emmanuel and the ruling Peoples Democratic Party, for continued development in the area in particular and the state in general.
The Village Head of Mbiabong Ikot Essien, Eteidung Hosea Okon, conveyed the appreciation of residents of Shelter Afrique and adjourning communities to Governor Emmanuel While Eteidung Idongesit Alfred Ekong equally communicated the heartfelt gratitude of Atan Offort people to the governor for his numerous interventions in the area.
